Biographical Notes:

With more than 20 years' settlement experience as a practicing lawyer, Jim is also a certified mediator.

Jim offers "Resolution Without Regret" interest-based dispute resolution. He helps people and organizations resolve their conflicts themselves, making for better outcomes, saving time, money, and relationships, and avoiding the risk and cost of litigation.

Jim is also a frequent lecturer on mediation at the Nova Scotia Bar Admission Skills Course and a trainer and writer on mediation principles and skills for a variety of professional and other audiences.

  • RATES & PAYMENT INFORMATION

    Rates: Fee for one-day, two-party mediation is generally in the range of $3000-$3500, including pre-mediation interviews. Fee for mediations involving more than two parties is generally $4000 and up. Fee to prepare post-mediation settlement agreement (if required) is extra and is charged at $325 per hour. Disbursements, including mileage, travel, accommodations, rental cost for mediation rooms outside of Halifax, and HST, extra.

    Payment: Deposit required; payment of balance within 30 days of completion.

    Cancellation Policy: If cancelled less than 15 days but more than 7 days before the scheduled mediation, flat fee of $1000 applies. If cancelled 7 days or less before the scheduled mediation, flat fee of $1500 applies. There is no charge for re-scheduling a mediation and no charge if another client books a mediation for the same day(s) as the cancelled session. All parties are jointly and severally responsible for cancellation fees, including those for room rentals.
