Biographical Notes:

I am the principal and founder of Poyner Dispute Resolution which provides dispute resolution services to a variety of clients. I have devoted my legal career to working with clients in pursuing fair and effective resolution to their legal disputes. I was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1997 and over the course of my legal career I have acted as counsel in Indian Residential School, ICBC and personal injury claims as well as class actions. I have also developed my mediation and arbitration practice receiving training through the B.C. Arbitration and Mediation Institute, the Justice Institute of B.C. and the Continuing Legal Education Society of B.C. I received my desigation as a Chartered Arbitrator from the ADR Institute of Canada in 2011. Prior to becoming a lawyer, I played professional baseball in the Texas Rangers and Montreal Expos organizations.

Education:

I earned my law degree in 1996 from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Arts in 1991 from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. I completed the Family Enterprise Advising program at the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business in 2010.

I have served as a panel member with the British Columbia Property Assessment Review Panel, the British Columbia Employment Assistance Appeal Tribunal and the City of North Vancouver Board of Variance. I am a member of the Civil Roster of Mediate B.C., the B.C. Arbitration and Mediation Institute, the ADR Institute of Canada and the Canadian Bar Association (ADR and Aboriginal sections). I am a member of the domestic arbitration panel with the BC International Commercial Arbitration Centre and the Canadian Human Rights Commision’s roster of ADR practitioners with experience in aboriginal communities. I am a member of the Board of Directors for Baseball B.C. as well as the BC Arbitration and Mediation Institute. I am also a member of Solvit Dispute Resolution where I work with a group of mediators and arbitrators offering clients a range of dispute resolution services.
